Forbidden Fantasy

My work explores the intersection of womanhood, tradition, and rebellion through fiber arts. Using quilting techniques and soft sculptural forms reminiscent of childhood comfort objects, I challenge the boundaries between craft and fine art. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted from recycled and donated fabrics, honoring both sustainability and the lineage of women who have shaped textile arts. Through humor and joy, I reimagine historical narratives, particularly those of women in positions of leadership, using religious symbolism as a playful yet subversive tool. My work resists the constraints of formality and maturity, embracing nostalgia as an act of defiance. The softness of the fabric contradicts the weight of serious themes, creating a space where humor and resistance coexist. By celebrating fiber art’s ability to evoke comfort and connection, my work invites audiences to reflect on their own histories—memories stitched into the fabric of time, passed down like heirlooms. As textile arts gain greater recognition in the fine art world, I seek to honor the women who paved this path, reinforcing that craft is not lesser but integral to artistic expression.
